USD Rugby Takes the Next Step: Toreros Join D1A

After years of dominating the D1AA landscape—with four national championships in four years, over a dozen All-Americans, and a program built on excellence both on the field and in the classroom—the University of San Diego Men’s Rugby Club is proud to announce its move to D1A, the highest level of collegiate rugby in the United States.

This transition is more than a promotion—it’s a statement. A statement that USD Rugby is ready to compete with the best programs in the country, to test itself against elite opposition, and to continue its rise as a nationally respected rugby powerhouse.

“Our success in D1AA has been about more than just wins,” said Director of Rugby Keavin Eaton. “It’s been about building a culture of accountability, resilience, and high standards. D1A is the next step in our evolution—and we’re ready.”

As USD enters this new chapter, the foundation remains the same: a relentless work ethic, a commitment to character, and a deep pride in the jersey. With the full support of its alumni, students, and community, the Toreros are ready to forge a new legacy at the sport’s highest collegiate level.

New league. Same standards.
